The Counterterrorism Blog: Al-Qaida Claims Kidnapping of Egyptian Ambassador in Baghdad and Promises New Audio Message from Abu Musab al-Zarqawi

"In a communique dated Tuesday, July 5, Al-Qaida's Committee in Mesopotamia has claimed responsibility for the abduction of Egyptian Ambassador in Baghdad Ihab el-Sherif. According to the statement, Ambassador el-Sherif was 'kidnapped by our mujahideen and he is under the control of our mujahideen, may Allah bless them, and we will provide you with more details upon their arrival. All praise be to Allah for his blessing.'
