Aljazeera.Net - Japan confirms identity of Corpse

Aljazeera.Net - Japan confirms identity of corpse: "Tokyo however vowed it would keep its troops in the country on what it calls a reconstruction mission.

An armed group in Iraq had on Wednesday threatened to behead Shosei Koda, 24, within 48 hours if Japan did not withdraw its troops.

'Unfortunately, we have just confirmed that the body is that of Shosei Koda,' Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura said on Sunday.

'The act of terrorism to take the life of a civilian is absolutely vicious and we must not tolerate such acts,' Machimura said.

'Japan, cooperating with the international community, must continue to fight terrorism firmly.'" More...
Does anyone think that this barbarism will disappear if John Kerry is elected ? What will pulling out of Iraq accomplish other than reinforcing in the minds of terrorists that fear and terrorism works? These cowardly fanatical dogs of dogs will sing praises to Allah if Kerry is elected anticipating a quick American withdrawal from the middle east. The majority of Iraqi citizens will be in abject fear of the possible civil war and retribution against all those who supported the new Iraqi government and hopes dashed for a normal stable civilized government. Again... wake up voters! President Bush may not be the sharpest tack in the draw, but at least he is aggressive and will not let our security and our right to preemptively attack those that threaten us be subjected to the will of Foregin nations. This is an election that will shape our future security over perhaps a decade... not a Red Sox Yankee baseball rivalry where at the end of the day you can say... oh well there is always next year ! Choose wisely and think about our sovereign right to defend ourselves and not be manipulated by the likes of a Bin Laden. -- zzb

Bin Laden Enters the Presidental Race

Ralph Nader step aside. Here comes the next ego maniac that just can't resist getting infront of a TV camera to speak to the American people. Consider how powerful your very simple act of voting is when it can draw this much mindshare from lunatics like Bin Laden.
"Looking healthy and defiant in a video released from hiding to Al Jazeera TV just four days before the U.S. presidential poll, bin Laden accused Bush of complacency during the Sept. 11 attacks, mocking him for going on with a visit to a school.

'Despite entering the fourth year after Sept. 11, Bush is still deceiving you and hiding the truth from you and therefore the reasons are still there to repeat what happened,' he said, making his clearest claim yet of responsibility.

In what seemed a deliberate attempt to influence Tuesday's U.S. election, bin Laden used the opening line: 'O American people, I am speaking to tell you about the ideal way to avoid another Manhattan, about war and its causes and results.'"
He obviously recognizes the power of the American people's will. But underestimates their intelligence to see through to his agenda of blackmailing Americans with fear to vote for a President that will keep America out of the affairs of the Middle East. I wonder which candidate that would be ? Primary agenda? Get out of the Middle East so radical islamics can continue their crusade against westernized central governments in the middle east, Saudi, Jordanian, Iraqi, Isreali un encumbered by US interference! Wake up America ! - zzb

Blogger grounded by Delta !

BBC NEWS | Technology | Blogger grounded by her airline: "A US airline attendant is fighting for her job after she was suspended over postings on her blog, or online diary.

Queen of the Sky, otherwise known as Ellen Simonetti, evolved into an anonymous semi-fictional account of life in the sky.

But after she posted pictures of herself in uniform, Delta Airlines suspended her indefinitely without pay.

Ms Simonetti was told her suspension was a result of 'inappropriate' images. Delta Airlines declined to comment." More...
I would hardly call this picture obscene. Delta executives need to get their heads examined. Maybe they have been flying around for too long at 38,000 feet without oxygen. I for one will not fly this airline again. All bloggers should unite on this point !!! - zzb

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Yasser Arafat 'very, very sick'

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Yasser Arafat 'very, very sick': "One cabinet minister, who asked not be identified, told Reuters that Mr Arafat, 75, was 'very, very sick'.

A crowd gathered, as a series of top Palestinian officials arrived. His wife Suha should arrive later on Thursday.

Israel says Mr Arafat can go anywhere for treatment, but it is unclear if he would be allowed back to the compound.

A top official told Reuters that if he leaves the West Bank, the question of whether he could return was 'a separate issue after he recuperates'.

Israel's policy has been that Mr Arafat is free to leave the compound where he is surrounded by Israeli troops, but may not be allowed to return."
He blew the best chance he had for his people years ago after the Camp David accords hosted by Bill Clinton. If he goes this week it would not have been a day too soon. I am sure there will be tears in the streets of Ramalah... along with teargas, bullets and pepperspray.

Peeping Tom filter lets phones see through bikinis

Here is a story found on C/Net that will be attracting some attention. Xray vision for your Nokia.
Peeping Tom filter lets phones see through bikinis | CNET News.com: "A developer in Tokyo has created an add-on for Vodafone handsets that's meant to be used as a night filter to let people take pictures with their phones in the dark.

Unfortunately, the night vision camera has an unexpected side effect, according to Japanese developer Yamada Denshi. In the right circumstances, it allows users to see a lot more than they bargained for.

As well as taking snaps in the dark, the Yamada Denshi infrared filter apparently sees through people's clothes.

The problem arises because the filter uses the distribution of heat to create its pictures. When attached to a high-end camera, the filter can see though certain kinds of clothing and is reportedly particularly effective on dark bikinis." More...

Kerry and Clinton / Brotherly Love

BBC NEWS | Americas | Clinton woos US voters for Kerry: "Bill Clinton has appeared at a rally alongside John Kerry in a bid to boost the Democratic candidate's chances in next week's US presidential election.

The ex-president, who has spent two months recovering from heart surgery, told Pennsylvania voters that Mr Kerry had a 'better plan' for America.

Republicans have said the decision to 'roll [Mr Clinton] off the surgery table' smacks of desperation.

Neither Mr Kerry nor George W Bush have a clear lead in the opinion polls.

'If this isn't good for my heart, I don't know what is,' Mr Clinton joked as he took the microphone in the city of Philadelphia." More...
As reported by the BBC. I must say former President Bill Clinton looked his old self today during live coverage of the Kerry Campaign at a rally in Philadelphia. It was clear that the majority of Democrats there were more focused on the former president and his health rather than John Kerry. Kerry hopes that Bill Clinton's popularity with black voters and inner city minorities will rub off on him in the days ahead. It's a push. Pensylvania will be a focused battleground in the days leading up to the election where the race is a toss up when viewed statewide. - zzb

Shaking the Will of Western Civilization... One Hostage at a Time !

"BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Margaret Hassan, the kidnapped director of CARE International in Iraq, appeared on a videotape aired Friday, weeping and pleading with British Prime Minister Tony Blair to withdraw troops from Iraq 'and not bring them to Baghdad' because 'this might be my last hours.'

'Please help me. Please help me,' said a terrified Hassan, breaking down in tears and burying her face in a tissue. She said she might be killed like British hostage Kenneth Bigley, who was beheaded by his captors earlier this month.

'This might be my last hours,' she said in the video aired by the Arabic television station Al-Jazeera. She begged the British people to 'ask Mr. Blair to take the troops out of Iraq, and not to bring them here to Baghdad. That's why people like Mr. Bigely and myself are being caught. And maybe we will die like Mr. Bigley. Please, please, I beg of you.'

Hassan - an Irish-British-Iraqi national who has been doing humanitarian work in Iraq for 30 years, including distributing medicine and food - appeared haggard, her eyes baggy as she stood alone in front of a bare wall."
There is no other purpose for these hostage taking events but to shake the will of ordinary people around the world who can identify with the victims. What you see playing out is a brutal form of warfare. Make no mistake about it... it is warfare. The ammunition is personal fear made public by instantaneous media and as such internalized by millions of people world wide, including our political leaders. In the long run it can be just as deadly as a .30 cal round being fired from a sniper's rifle. Wake up everyone. The root of this is a clash of ideologies and culture, emanating from the 40 years of hatred between the Israel and it's Arab neighbors. Will it take an alien invasion from another world to bring this historic conflict to a close? This form of brutal terrorism can go on forever, especially if it produces political results. It will continue until the ROOT CAUSES are eradicated. One only needs to look at history to understand what they are. 40 years worth of root causes between Israel, Palestine and her Arab neighbors leave a pitiful legacy on both sides. - zzb

Apology from Teresa Heinz Kerry to Laura Bush !

"PITTSBURGH, Oct. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Teresa Heinz Kerry released the following statement today after saying that Laura Bush had not worked a day in her life !

"'I had forgotten that Mrs. Bush had worked as a school teacher and librarian, and there couldn't be a more important job than teaching our children. As someone who has been both a full time mom and full time in workforce, I know we all have valuable experiences that shape who we are. I appreciate and honor Mrs. Bush's service to the country as First Lady, and am sincerely sorry I had not remembered her important work in the past.'"

John Edward's Bad Hair Day !

Wonder what a bad hair day looks like on the campaign trail ? Well here is a video of vice-president wanna be, John Edwards, obsessing with his hair before a camera shoot ! Reminds us of a valley girl getting ready to go to the mall! I do so love myself ! After the session it was rumored he was alledged he was heard muttering, "So I am a bit of a girlie man, my opponent's daughter can relate to that!"

Iraq's Allawi Extends Arms-For-Cash Plan

Not a bad idea from the new Iragi President. Or is it ?
Iraq's Allawi Extends Arms-For-Cash Plan: "BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi announced plans Monday to extend a cash-for-weapons program for Shiite fighters in Baghdad's Sadr City to cities nationwide in an attempt to disarm the country. U.S. forces also reported fresh attacks against alleged terrorist strongholds in Fallujah." More...

Kerry gets blamed for Haiti unrest

BBC NEWS | Americas | Kerry gets blame for Haiti unrest: "The commander of the UN peacekeepers in Haiti has linked a recent upsurge in violence there to comments made by the US presidential candidate, John Kerry.

Earlier this year Mr Kerry said that as president he would have sent American troops to protect Jean-Bertrand Aristide who was ousted from power in February.

The Brazilian UN general, Augusto Heleno, said Mr Kerry's comments had offered 'hope' to Aristide supporters. Much of the recent unrest has centred on areas loyal to Mr Aristide." More...This is the kind of rhetoric a Senator should know could have assed fuel to the fire kindling in Haiti once again.

Bin Laden is in China? Fact or Fiction ?

This confirms Gordon Thomas, a journalist with contacts in the most important intelligence services. The terrorist had reached an agreement with China, which now negotiates its surrender with Bush.

10/13/04 'El Mundo' -- During the home stretch of the Northamerican elections, Osama bin Laden could prove to be the ace in the sleeve of president Bush. As we speak, Washington is negotiating a highly secretive agreement with Beijing, the Chinese capital, for the eviction of bin Laden from his sanctuary in the turbulent Muslim provinces of China, in the Northwest of the Great Wall nation.

More than five million people, many of them fanatic followers of Osama, live in that region, which can be called one of the most volatile regions of Earth. Thousands of them work for the mafias who specialize in the trafficking of humans and drugs to the West. Last summer, Bin Laden sealed an agreement with the authorities in Beijing, in which he was granted asylum in return for his guarantees that the guerilla war of the Muslim Chinese against the Chinese nation would end. ScrappleFace: Kerry Sorry for Remark About Cheney's Lesbian Child

Another great piece of satire from Scott. Kerry was as abnoxious as could be. Bush may not be a very great orator, but Stan Laurel showed the side of him last night that we can all expect to see more of if he is elected. The family members of political candidates should be off limits and as such the Kerry campaign has sunk to new lows. The following is a parody of an apology one might come to expect from the Kerry and Carvel gang.
(2004-10-14) -- John Forbes Kerry, father of two heterosexual daughters, today apologized for referring to the sexual preference of Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter during last night's final presidential debate.

'There's nothing wrong with being one of God's homosexual children,' said Mr. Kerry, an openly-heterosexual veteran of foreign war who is also a U.S. Senator, 'And far be it from me to pry into the private life of Mr. Cheney's lesbian child, who is gay and a homosexual. People can't choose whom they will love, and so I should not have mentioned that his daughter is a lesbian person, and not a heterosexual, but in fact a gay homosexual woman who is a lesbian with the last name Cheney.'

Mr. Kerry said he would send a card to the vice president's daughter to fully express his regrets.

'I'm sure Hallmark has a nice collection of cards that say things like, 'I'm sorry I talked about your sexual preferences on national TV',' said Mr. Kerry. 'But I really wasn't trying to remind conservatives that the vice president has a daughter who is not heterosexual, but rather a homosexual lesbian gay woman named Cheney.'

Mr. Kerry's running mate, John Edwards, will reportedly issue an apology tomorrow for similar remarks he made during his debate with Mr. Cheney." - Scott Ott / Scrapleface

Yankees vs. Red Sox vs. Presidential Debates !

Tonight the 3rd Presidential Debate will be held as millions of Americans find themselves conflicted between watching the penultimate rivalry in sports versus watching a similar struggle for the next occupant of the White House! What rocket scientist scheduled these two event during the same day and timeslots? Where they the same media neanderthals that scheduled the AL Division Champoinship in the same timeframe as the NL Division Championship this evening !

It is remarkable that with as critical an issue as electing the next President during a period of global turmoil, the political campaigns did not recognize the conflict earlier in discussions with network executives ! (Or did they recognized it but not give a damn about it? )

Maybe the campaign and network executives have significant holdings in TIVO ? Sadly, Americans find themselves living more and more in a world of soundbites heavely coated with bias from the media outlets reporting the events after the fact. It is rare that we can observe a live event like a debate and make up our own minds.

It is unfortuante and a disgrace that both campaigns could not have anticipated this conflict... oh yes... there is TIVO, VCRs, Sports Bars and Split TV screens but come on... what were they thinking ???

Want to be Drafted? Then Vote Democratic !

A growing fear of being drafted is on the increase at more and more college campuses as the Iraqi War and general Middle Eastern geo-political situation, appears to grow increasingly complicated. The prospect of highschool and college grads finding themselves in a protracted Middle Eastern conflict over the next decade has many young voters increasingly paranoid.

...Democrats can rally around the idea of an imbalance in mix between socio-economic strata in the military, and many in fact support the concept of a lottery based or quota based draft system on the middle and upper class...

The irony however is that young voters from families in middle to high income brackets look to the Democratic party to withdraw from the Middle East faster than the Republicans would. Not a chance. Regardless of which party wins the election in November, we will be in the Middle East with other countries, or more increasingly by ourselves, to protect interests there as well as to make a stand to "sow the seeds of democracy" which is the onlyreal hope for long range and lasting peace. Ironically the Democratic Party however would be more inclined to reinstate a draft than the Republican Party. In fact Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) has as much advocated such last year. The logic ? Well it's simple really. Mr. Reingold's contention, and that of a lot of other liberal democrats, is that currently there is a disproportionate number of lower income service men and women in the military today. To obtain "parity and equity" a draft would ensure that more middle and upper income families contribute to the cause as opposed to an "all volunteer Military". Republicans on the other hand are more inclined to resist re-establishing a draft as it would be unpopular with the majority of their voter power base.

Democrats may rally around the idea of an unbalance after winning an election to point out the disparity in mix between socio-economic strata in the military to rally their base, and in fact support the concept of a lottery or even economically based quota draft system to balance the disparity. Just theoretical but if you think carefully about the macro power dynamics between these parties one can see how it might play out with a Democratic controlled White House and Congress.

...Rangel: 'For those who say the poor fight better, I say give the rich a chance.'...

"I truly believe that those who make the decision and those who support the United States going into war would feel more readily the pain that's involved, the sacrifice that's involved, if they thought that the fighting force would include the affluent and those who historically have avoided this great responsibility," Rangel said. More...

If you are from a family in a middle or high income and economic strata, and have an adversity for being called up in a draft.... you should, based on the above logic, vote REPUBLICAN... The irony is trying to understand why the Republicans have not played up this disparity? Or make a similar argument in the media! At the very least, resurrect Charlie Rangel's comments last year about his support for a draft as a way to balance the disproportionate numbers of economically disadvantaged in the armed forces today ! This paradox between parties has not been taken advantage of or exploited by the Republican Campaign in any significant way. One would think it might help shift some votes in the 18 - 24 bracket toward the Republican party if the case was made in the open. Why have Republicans missed segmenting and targeting the young voters from middle and upper class along with the Soccer Moms? Your Comments?

ScrappleFace: FBI Uncovers Possible Cache of Unlabeled Kerry Plans

ScrappleFace: FBI Uncovers Possible Cache of Unlabeled Kerry Plans: "FBI Uncovers Possible Cache of Unlabeled Kerry Plans

(2004-10-09) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said today it has found what may be a cache of plans by John Forbes Kerry to address the crises in health care, the economy, Iraq and a host of other national traumas.

'We were called in on the case after the plans had gone missing through two presidential debates,' said an FBI spokesman. 'I have to caution you, however, that it may take several months or more to translate these documents and discover whether they are, in fact, plans. It's still up in the air because the file folders in which we found them had no labels. Apparently, Mr. Kerry doesn't like to label anything.'

A spokesman for the Kerry-Edwards campaign refused to comment directly on the FBI discovery.

'Sen. Kerry has said 'I have a plan' and we will leave it at that,' said the unnamed source. 'The FBI, at the direction of John Ashcroft, is on a fishing expedition to embarrass John Kerry just before the election.'

The source noted that 'when Martin Luther King Jr. said 'I have a dream' no one demanded that he prove it. Why should Sen. Kerry be held to higher standard?'"

ScrappleFace: Bin Laden Deputy Thanks Kerry for 'Great Ideas'

Another insightful satirical piece from Scott Ott... food for thought. It would have been considered the height of irresponsiblity if something like this had occured during WWII or the Vietnam War.
ScrappleFace: Bin Laden Deputy Thanks Kerry for 'Great Ideas': "Bin Laden Deputy Thanks Kerry for 'Great Ideas'
(2004-10-01) -- In a tape aired on Al-Jazeera TV, Usama bin Laden's top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, thanked Democrat presidential candidate John Forbes Kerry for the 'great ideas he shared during last night's debate.'
On the tape, still under analysis by the CIA, Mr. al-Zawahiri notes that Mr. Kerry's debate remarks were a 'terrific brainstorming session for our associates who seek targets of opportunity to advance the cause of our peaceful religion.'
Mr. Zawahiri said he appreciated the 'virtual invitation' implied in the following statements by Mr. Kerry:
-- 'The president hasn't put one nickel - not one nickel - into the effort to fix some of our tunnels and bridges and most exposed subway systems.'
-- 'The president - 95 percent of the containers that come into the ports, right here in Florida, are not inspected.'
-- 'Civilians get onto aircraft and their luggage is X-rayed, but the cargo hold is not X-rayed.
-- 'And there's an enormous undone job to protect the loose nuclear materials in the world that are able to get to terrorists.'
-- 'The president, also unfortunately, gave in to the chemical industry, which didn't want to do some of the things necessary to strengthen our chemical plant exposure.'
Mr. Kerry, a professional Vietnam veteran who is also a U.S. Senator, said 'it's important for the global community to understand our vulnerabilities so that we don't appear arrogant, thus inviting a terrorist attack.'"

VP Debate Ends: Now Media Spin Begins

ScrappleFace: VP Debate Ends: Viewers Eager to Learn Who Won: "VP Debate Ends: Viewers Eager to Learn Who Won
(2004-10-05) --The only vice presidential debate of 2004 is now history, and Americans who watched or listened to it are eager to learn which candidate won.
A flash poll conducted moments after the debate showed that most Americans believe they will soon have opinions about how well Vice President Dick Cheney did compared with Sen. John Edwards.
The formation of those opinions could require days of intensive listening to commentators from the major news networks and CBS, and countless hours of reading weblogs or even newspapers.
One typical poll respondent said, 'I watched last week's presidential debate and I thought President Bush won. But I later found out that I was wrong. How embarrassing. Tonight, I thought Dick Cheney did well, but this time I'm going to wait until I find out what I should think before I go shooting my mouth off.'" -

Mt. St. Helens - Just Hot Air ?

My Way News: "MOUNT ST. HELENS NATIONAL MONUMENT, Wash. (AP) - Mount St. Helens blew off more steam Monday, shooting a billowing white plume several hundred feet above the volcano and thrilling hundreds of visitors who had gathered below the rumbling mountain."

Scientists, who continued to warn that the volcano could blow at any moment, stopped short of calling the steam burst an actual eruption, saying no volcanic material apparently was emitted. The steam quickly dissipated and did not threaten any structures near Mount St. Helens.

Even if a larger eruption comes, officials say there was little or no chance of a repeat of the mountain's lethal 1980 explosion, or Hawaiian-style lava flows. The eruption 24 years ago blew 1,300 feet off the top of the peak, killed 57 people and coated much of the Pacific Northwest with ash. More...
Jeff Wynn, chief scientist for volcano hazards in nearby Vancouver, Wash., said the lava dome within the crater had risen another 100 feet in the dome's southern area.

"Something is driving - like a piston - something is driving up. We believe it's magma. We believe new magma is involved. And new magma is potentially more gas rich and therefore more explosive," Wynn said.

The action at Mount St. Helens has drawn thousands of visitors to the monument, including Patricia Cusic of Live Oak, Fla., who arrived Saturday with her daughter, and her three grandchildren who live in Arlington.

"Now we can go home and say, 'Hey, we saw a volcano erupting!' This was a good time to come," Cusic said excitedly at the Coldwater Ridge Visitors Center, about 8 1/2 miles from the rim.

During the weekend, officials shut down areas closer to the mountain as a precaution. The Johnston Ridge Observatory, about five miles from the crater, was evacuated, and most air traffic was prohibited within a 5-mile radius of the volcano. -- Gene Johnson / My Way News

The Kerry vs. Kerry Debates !

ONE: Claimed "I'll Never Give A Veto To Any Country Over Our Security." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Preemption Must Pass "Global Test" First. "No president, though all of American history, has ever ceded, and nor would I, the right to preempt in any way necessary to protect the United States of America. But if and when you do it, Jim, you have to do it in a way that passes the test, that passes the global test where your countrymen, your people understand fully why you're doing what you're doing and you can prove to the world that you did it for legitimate reasons." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Kerry Would Wait On French And Russians To Defend America. SEN. JOHN KERRY: "I would have done what was necessary to know that you had exhausted the available remedies with the French and the Russians." (MSNBC's Hardball, 10/20/03)

TWO: Claimed "Reason For Going To War Was Weapons Of Mass Destruction, Not The Removal Of Saddam Hussein." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Kerry Said "Greatest Threat" Was Saddam's "Miscalculation," Not "Actual" WMDs. KERRY: "I would disagree with John McCain that it's the actual weapons of mass destruction he may use against us, it's what he may do in another invasion of Kuwait or in a miscalculation about the Kurds or a miscalculation about Iran or particularly Israel. Those are the things that ? that I think present the greatest danger. He may even miscalculate and slide these weapons off to terrorist groups to invite them to be a surrogate to use them against the United States. It's the miscalculation that poses the greatest threat." (CBS Face The Nation, 9/15/02)

THREE: Claimed "This President Has Made, I Regret To Say, A Colossal Error Of Judgment. And Judgment Is What We Look For In The President Of The United States Of America." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Kerry Questioned Judgment Of Those Claiming Saddam's Capture Didn't Help U.S. Security. "Those who doubted whether Iraq or the world would be better off without Saddam Hussein and those who believe today that we are not safer with his capture don't have the judgment to be president or the credibility to be elected president." (CNN's Capital Gang, 12/20/03; Anne Q. Hoy, Dean Faces More Criticism, [New York] Newsday, 12/17/03)

FOUR: Complained "We Are 90 Percent Of The Casualties And 90 Percent Of The Cost: $200 Billion ? $200 Billion That Could Have Been Used For Health Care, For Schools, For Construction, For Prescription Drugs For Seniors, And It's In Iraq." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Kerry Pledged To Fund Reconstruction With "Whatever Number" Of Dollars It Took. NBC'S TIM RUSSERT: "Do you believe that we should reduce funding that we are now providing for the operation in Iraq?" SEN. JOHN KERRY: "No. I think we should increase it.? RUSSERT: "Increase funding?" KERRY: "Yes." RUSSERT: "By how much?" KERRY: "By whatever number of billions of dollars it takes to win. It is critical that the United States of America be successful in Iraq, Tim." (NBC's Meet The Press, 8/31/03)

FIVE: Claimed "You Don't Send Troops To War Without The Body Armor That They Need." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Kerry Said It Would Be Reckless And "Irresponsible" To Vote Against Funding For Troops. LOS ANGELES TIMES DOYLE McMANUS: "If that amendment does not pass, will you then vote against the $87 billion?" KERRY: "I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon our troops and recklessly leave Iraq to whatever follows as a result of simply cutting and running. That's irresponsible. What is responsible is for the administration to do this properly now. And I am laying out the way in which the administration could unite the American people, could bring other countries to the table, and I think could give the American people a sense that they're on the right track. There's a way to do this properly. But I don't think anyone in the Congress is going to not give our troops ammunition, not give our troops the ability to be able to defend themselves. We're not going to cut and run and not do the job." (CBS Face The Nation, 9/14/03)

* Kerry Voted Against Senate Passage Of Iraq/Afghanistan Reconstruction Package That Included Money For Body Armor For Soldiers. (S. 1689, CQ Vote #400: Passed 87-12: R 50-0; D 37-11; I 0-1, 10/17/03, Kerry Voted Nay; ?Highlights Of Iraq, Afghanistan Measures,? The Associated Press, 10/17/03)

* "I Actually Did Vote For The $87 Billion Before I Voted Against It, [Kerry] Said." (Glen Johnson, Kerry Blasts Bush On Protecting Troops, The Boston Globe, 3/17/04)

SIX: Said Americans In Iraq Not Dying For "Mistake." PBS JIM LEHRER: "Are Americans now dying in Iraq for a mistake?" KERRY: "No, and they don't have to, providing we have the leadership that we put - that I'm offering." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Earlier In Debate, Kerry Called Iraq War "Mistake." "We can't leave a failed Iraq. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake of judgment to go there and take the focus off of Osama bin Laden. It was." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* "But The President Made A Mistake In Invading Iraq." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

SEVEN: Said Knowing What He Knows Now, "Would Not" Have Authorized Use Of Force. "What I think troubles a lot of people in our country is that the president has just sort of described one kind of mistake. But what he has said is that, even knowing there were no weapons of mass destruction, even knowing there was no imminent threat, even knowing there was no connection with al Qaeda, he would still have done everything the same way. Those are his words. Now, I would not." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Said Knowing What He Knows Now, "Would Have Voted For The Authority." SEN. JOHN KERRY: "Yes, I would have voted for the authority. I believe it's the right authority for a president to have. But I would have used that authority as I have said throughout this campaign, effectively. I would have done this very differently from the way President Bush has." (CNN's Inside Politics, 8/9/04)

EIGHT: Claimed "The President Says That I'm Denigrating These Troops. I Have Nothing But Respect For The British, Tony Blair, And For What They've Been Willing To Do." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Kerry Dismissed Coalition Partners As "Window Dressing" And Claimed They're Not Sharing Burden Of War And Reconstruction. CNN'S BILL HEMMER: "The White House would say that dozens of countries are helping now in the effort on the ground in Iraq and they are engaged with the U.N., as well, how would more international involvement prevent the violence we're seeing today?" SEN. JOHN KERRY: "Well, the fact is that those countries are really window dressing to the greatest degree. And they weren't there in the beginning when we went in, and they're not carrying the cost of this war." (CNN's American Morning, 3/2/04)

NINE: Claimed "I've Had One Position, One Consistent Position, That Saddam Hussein Was A Threat." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)

* Kerry Said, "We Now Know That Iraq Had No Weapons Of Mass Destruction, And Posed No Imminent Threat To Our Security." (Sen. John Kerry, Remarks At New York University, New York, NY, 9/20/04)

TEN: Claimed "My Position Has Been Consistent: Saddam Hussein Is A Threat. He Needed To Be Disarmed." (Sen. John Kerry, First Presidential Debate, Miami, FL, 9/30/04)
