Howard Stern Battles CBS

Howard Stern is taking off his gloves and going after CBS in a pre emptive strike of his own. He fully expects a lawsuit claiming he cost the network millions of dollars by "promoting" his move to Sirus radio while on the air last summer. Frankly... we wonder why they left him on the air if that was such an issue? Could it have been that the sky rocketing ratings they were getting over the summer might have had something to do with it? Talk about trying to have it both ways! CBS with lower ratings than George Bush still doesn't get it!

'They're floundering,' Stern said, adding that talk of a suit was meant as a distraction from CBS Radio's problems.

Stern said he had a meeting with Moonves and CBS Radio chief executive Joel Hollander about three weeks ago to discuss their complaints.

'I said, 'Les, what's going on?'' said Stern. 'He said it's nothing personal, it's just business. But ... it is personal.'

Stern's move to Sirius, touted more than a year in advance, was seen as a bold bid by the fledgling satellite radio business to attract some of his millions of fans as paying subscribers.

Stern said his move garnered much media attention and CBS added to it, booking him for appearances on its news magazine show '60 Minutes' and 'Late Show with David Letterman.'

'I made them millions of dollars. If I was hurting them why did they keep me on the air for 14 months?' Stern said. 'How can you have it both ways?'"

China - Taiwan: Tensions Mounting

Chen said on Monday the National Unification Council and 15-year-old symbolic guidelines on eventual unification had 'ceased to function', but he also said that did not mean the self-ruled island would push for formal independence.

'His further escalation of secessionist activities will no doubt stoke tensions and trigger a serious crisis in the Straits,' the state-run China Daily said in an editorial.

'Chen's risky and provocative actions also threaten to destroy peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region,' it said.

The comments echoed a statement by China's policy-making Taiwan Affairs Office published on Monday that warned that scrapping the body would spark crisis in the Taiwan Strait."

Specter Bill Creates Guest Slacker Program

(ScrappleFace) Just a day after releasing his proposal to create a “guest worker” program for non-citizen immigrants, Sen. Arlen Specter, R-PA, today circulated a first draft of legislation which would launch a “guest slacker” program.

“Just as a guest worker meets the needs of big business by taking a job that no American wants,” Sen. Specter said, “a guest slacker will meet the needs of big government by consuming public assistance funds that have not been disbursed to Americans.”

Under the terms of the measure, the guest slacker and his family may remain in the country for a period of three years, but then must return to the welfare rolls of his own homeland for a year, before being allowed back to the U.S. for another loafing stint of three years.

“We have welfare programs begging for clients,” Sen. Specter said. “You can hear their public service ads on the radio daily. But most hard-working Americans believe that taking handouts from the government is beneath them, undignified or even un-American.”

The senator noted that his guest slacker bill would allow some of the less popular government social programs to keep operating, and even to increase their taxpayer funding as their client list grows forcing them to hire bilingual staff to serve customers in dozens of foreign languages.

“It’s a win for the government employees and a win for the guest slackers,” he said. “That’s what you call a win-win scenario. I predict overwhelming approval in the Senate.”" -- Scott Ott

"COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Consumer boycotts of Danish goods in Muslim countries in protest of the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad are costing Denmark's companies millions, and have raised fears of irreparable damage to trade ties.

From Havarti cheese to Lego toys, Danish products have been yanked off the shelves of stores in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other countries around the Middle East as Muslims await an apology for the cartoons, which the Copenhagen government has said it cannot give. The boycotts have also spawned counter-boycott campaigns to 'Buy Danish.'

The boycotts began in Saudi Arabia on Jan. 26 when supermarkets either put up signs saying to stop buying Danish goods or removed products from shelves. Since then it has spread to other Muslim nations, and even to Western stores doing business there.

A supermarket in Cairo run by France's Carrefour has had signs, for example, saying that it is not offering Danish products 'in solidarity with Muslims and Egyptians.'" More...

Hopefully, the VP's victim will be fine. One of the first rules of shooting is "Know our target and what's beyond it!" Cheney Shoots Hunter, Repeals 2nd Amendment

(TEXAS) — Vice President Dick Cheney today accidentally peppered a 78-year-old hunting buddy with shotgun pellets during a quail hunt in Texas, injuring attorney Harry Whittington.

Filled with remorse over the incident, the vice president immediately repealed the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which guarantees “the right to bear arms.”

“I’m truly sorry that I winged Harry when he blocked my shot at the quail,” said Mr. Cheney. “I now realize that gun violence is not just an inner-city poor problem, but rather an epidemic that can spill out of the ghetto and affect wealthy and powerful, elderly Americans.”

The vice president said he has “directed President Bush to declare martial law and to repeal the Second Amendment temporarily, until we can get a federal court to declare the right to bear arms unconstitutional.”

Reporters Violated Bush Privacy Rights

"— Democrats in Congress called for an investigation today of journalists who secretly eavesdropped on President George Bush when his microphone was accidentally left on during a private conversation with Republican lawmakers Friday.

The president had just spoken to reporters at a House Republican Caucus retreat in Maryland, before sending them out of the room so he could confer privately with GOP colleagues about the legality of the secret NSA wiretaps of terror suspects which he authorized. But the audio feed to the White House press room remained on and journalists heard the president saying in private the same things he often says in public.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, called for a Justice Department probe of the incident.

“These journalists listened in on a private conversation among American citizens without a warrant and without any kind of accountability or oversight,” Rep. Pelosi said. “They could have jumped up and turned off the audio, or left the room, but instead they violated the right to privacy which forms the Constitutional basis for our most precious freedoms.”

The California Democrat said “this irresponsible, and possibly criminal, act has revealed something that we have tried for years to keep secret — that the president says what he means in public and in private.”

“This breach of privacy threatens the security of many in the homeland,” she added. “Especially those of us whose legislative careers depend on fostering doubts about the president’s honesty.” -- Scott Ott / ScrappleFace

NSA Adds Alert and Choices on Tapped Calls

"(2006-02-07) — After a day in which Attorney General Alberto Gonzales faced tough questions from the Senate Judiciary Committee about the legality of America’s best-known secret terrorist surveillance program, the National Security Agency (NSA) said it would alter its wiretap protocol to reduce the threat to civil rights.

Under the new procedures for intercepting a telephone call from an al Qaeda operative to a U.S. resident, the two parties engaged in conversation will hear a brief alarm bell every 30 seconds, followed by a recorded announcement that says: “In order to better protect the United States from devastating terror attacks, this call may be monitored.”

According to covert NSA spokesman Louis Slipps, “the new measures carry the assumption that some Americans may be unaware that they’re talking with terrorists, or do not realize that their casual chatter with an al Qaeda buddy may aide and abet the enemy.”

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-VT, who yesterday told the Attorney General that he’s concerned about “peaceful Quakers who are being spied upon. and other law-abiding Americans and babies and nuns who are placed on terrorist watch lists“, today welcomed the new ‘liberty-enhanced’ secret wiretap program that the NSA dubbed “Operation Let Freedom Ring.”

“Thanks to these changes, the Quakers can stop quaking from fear and return to their regularly-scheduled quaking in response to divine revelation,” said Sen. Leahy. “And law-abiding Americans who just happen to have friends in al Qaeda, can rest easier tonight.”

In addition to the monitoring alert, Mr. Slipps said U.S. residents on NSA-intercepted calls will soon be offered a menu of options, including the following:

– To continue in Arabic press ‘one’ or say wâhid
– To hear a complete listing of the steps required to obtain a wiretap warrant under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, press, or say, two
– If you’re a law-abiding American press, or say, three
– If you’re a Quaker, a baby or a nun and feel you have reached this recording in error, please hang up the phone and dial a number that’s not associated with al Qaeda.
– To speak with an NSA representative, remain on the line until we complete the trace. You may hear a brief series of clicks, followed by a knock at your door.

How deep is the hole that some of politians have their heads in? Take a good look at the images on the major networks and cable outlets. What planet are the Democrats on with respect to this issue? We have to believe the average American citizen is watching the chaos overseas and are praying that the same insanity doesn't find it's way to our shores. "Yo Mama's Last Supper" -- a work of art by Renee Cox created a controversy, even inciting the anger of Mayor Rudi Giuliani back in the winter of 2001. The firestorm did not cause the burning of the U.S. Embassy in Rome or the destruction of the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Are 21st century Christians wimps? Why didn't they call for the death and destruction of all artists and writers in the U.S.? What was wrong with us back in 2001? Prophetic?


One would have at least expected that the Museum might have been burned to the ground by the Knights of Columbus!! Or the Sisters of the Church of "What's Happening Now".

In 1999, the same museum's "Sensation" show featured an elephant dung-embellished Virgin Mary. The mayor froze the museum's annual $7.2 million city subsidy — about a third of its annual budget — then sued in state court to evict the museum. [Later thrown out in court!]

A Right to Blasphemy

Satircal cartoonists from around the globe are having a field day with the images of violence against freedom of expression. New York Christians were outraged in 2001 during the exhibit of a photo essay of a Nude Female Jesus at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. The world didn't see any riots or the call for blood in the streets, or beheadings from outraged Christians in Brooklyn and Rome!

Saudi Surprise at Bush Oil Call

In an AlJazeera article published today, the Saudi Prince Turki al-Faisal was supposedly taken aback by President Bush's declaration that America is addicted to oil. With a clear tone of arrogance, the Saudis were upset that they were not notified by the comment in his speech before hand, as "oil is our major income earner". Pardon us, if we make it a strategic policy to become independent of your royal family!

Aljazeera.Net - Saudi surprise at Bush oil call: "'I was taken aback,' Prince Turki al-Faisal told CNN television in an interview on Sunday.

He was commenting on Bush's State of the Union speech last Tuesday in which he said America needed to end its addiction to oil.

Expressing his suprise, al-Faisal said he had brought up Saudi concerns over the speech with White House officials.

Al-Faisal had been among ambassadors watching the president's address from the floor of the US House of Representatives.

'This is something that is of serious concern to us because oil is our major income earner,' the prince said.

Security Council!!! Mother Moonbat Sheehan and her lunatic followers are aligned with a regime that is sympathetic to an Iranian government on a fast track to develop nuclear armament with an outspoken intention to elimanate Israel from the face of the earth! Way to go Dems! You should thank your lucky stars she was NOT front and center at the State of the Union Address!

Undecided voters, Libertarians, Independents, recognize this. Most Republicans all know this President is not the sharpest tack in the draw, and has screwed up. But in 2008 what "philosphy" would you want leading this nation? The alternative to the Republican Party appears to be a party that can't take a stand and clearly articulate any PREMPTIVE position to protect us against the looming threats in a violent war that has been declared against us. A war declared against our democratic freedoms. Freedom of thought, of expression, monetary success and diversity of religious beliefs. The big showdown is waiting in the wings. Nuclear Panel Votes to Report Tehran to U.N. - New York Times: "VIENNA, Feb. 4 — The 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency voted here on Saturday to report Iran's nuclear case to the United Nations Security Council, a move that could change the course of international diplomacy toward Iran and open the door to international punishment of the country."

Iran announced after the vote that it would immediately end its voluntary nuclear cooperation with the agency and that it would begin full-scale production of enriched uranium, which can be used to produce electricity or to help build nuclear bombs. Branding the resolution as "politically motivated," Javad Vaidi, the head of Iran's negotiating team, told reporters that Iran would "immediately bring into force" a law requiring such action.

The vote by the atomic agency is the climax of a two-and-a-half-year campaign by the Bush administration to convince the world that suspicions about Iran's nuclear program are so serious that the issue must come before the Security Council for judgment. More...

Iran has learned how to manipulate the U.N. from observing Iraq and they will follow the exact same script figuring that in the end they will be able cast the U.S. and Israel as the "bad guy" counting on the rest of the world to isolate us and polarize all muslim people against non muslim nations. That is why you are seeing the violence in the E.U. where the muslim "countries within countries" are polarizing European nations. Backlashes are inevitable and will increase expotentially. Iran's strategy is to sow the seeds of fear, follow the Sadaamist non cooperation strategy and test the U.N.'s resolve, in order to buy themselves time to develop and then surely demonstrate a nuclear capability in the region with a test, or worse an assult. Once that happens, we are sure they believe they will then have upper hand in setting the agenda in the Middle East and turing the world against Israel by relying on their bet that cowardice in hearts of "non-muslims" generated by terror will result in retreat from supporting Israel in any future confrontation which, of course, is radical Islam's ultimate goal. The world can't wait for that scenerio to unfold. Hence philosophies of premption, both diplomatic and military, are the only options left to the nations in the immediate area, and the world in general. Prophetic?

The curtain is now raised on ACT II in the War on Terror. Take it to the bank!

Clash Over Cartoons

No serious American newspaper would commission images of Jesus that were solely designed to offend Christians. And if one did, the reaction would be swift and certain. Politicians would take to the floors of Congress and call down thunder on create,the malefactors. Some Christians would react with fury and boycotts and flaming e-mails that couldn't be printed in a family newspaper; others would react with sadness, prayer and earnest letters to the editor. There would be mayhem, though it is unlikely that semiautomatic weapons would be brandished in the streets. Fortunately, it's not likely to happen, because good newspapers are governed, in their use of images, by the basic principle of news value .

When those now-infamous 12 cartoons of the prophet Muhammad were first published in Denmark, they had virtually no news value at all. They were created as a provocation -- Islam generally forbids the making of images of its highest prophet -- in a conservative newspaper, which wanted to make a point about freedom of speech in liberal, secular Western democracy. Depending on your point of view, it was a stick in the eye meant to provoke debate, or just a stick in the eye. More...

Muslims, in their rage, need to understand that this door swings in both directions. If you want the world to respect the sacred aspects and images of your religion in turn you must also respect the sacred aspects and images of other religions as well. Including Judaism and Christianity. You can't have it one way!! You cannot support those who hide behind your religion as an excuse to murder "non believers" in the name of God! Or use mosques as safe havens for terrorists and weapons of carnage and murder! When you do this, you debase your own religion and thus non believers loose any respect for your faith! Good Muslims should understand that they become part of the problem, and debase their own religion, when they themselves don't speak out against islamo-facists "geo-political murderers" who hide behind and distort a their beliefs in order to force their own will on others through murder and "martyrdom". The world will not stand back and accept this.
